The first meeting of the THYROID SCHOOL, which aims to increase the scientific standard by sharing the practical and theoretical knowledge of general surgeons or surgeon candidates dealing with endocrine surgery in the country on the same platform, was successfully held in Erzurum with the association president Prof. Dr. Adnan İşgör, THYROID SCHOOL education commission members Prof. Dr. Tarık Terzioğlu, Prof. Dr. Yasemin Giles and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Tunca and Erzurum Atatürk University faculty members Prof. Dr. Güngör Akçay and Prof. Dr. Müfide Akçay. In the meeting, which saw broad participation, current problems regarding follow-up and surgical indications in thyroid nodules were discussed interactively. The participants also expressed the difficulties in determining surgical treatment indications in the cases they followed and treated or the problems experienced in follow-up and treatment under regional conditions, and mutual information was exchanged on a common discussion platform. Later, a total thyroidectomy was performed in a case with multinodular toxic goiter and the surgery was broadcasted live to the meeting hall. During the surgery, the principles of total thyroidectomy and the important stages of the surgery were shared with the participants in an interactive manner and the surgery was performed. The aim of this training program is to raise the scientific standard theoretically but also to share new technologies used in practice, to introduce these new methods in all centers where endocrine surgery is performed in the country and to make them widely and successfully used. In this context, nerve monitoring used to reduce the risk of recurrent nerve injury during thyroidectomy and vascular sealing systems used to reduce the risk of bleeding and the duration of surgery were used in the surgery phase of the meeting and interactive information and sharing was made about the intraoperative use of these systems. As the Endocrine Surgery Association Education Committee, we would like to thank Erzurum Atatürk University and university faculty members Prof. Dr. Güngör Akçay and Prof. Dr. Müfide Akçay for making all the technical preparations for our first meeting and for being excellent hosts for the successful realization of the meeting. The association education committee aims to ensure that this education program, which has made a successful start, continues effectively by making a program regarding the time, place and content of the education meetings in line with the demands of general surgeons interested in endocrine surgery.
